Episode #7: Magnetism

Join Brian Jones of Little Shop of Physics, Colorado State University, as he performs unusual experiments using very ordinary materials. Students join Brian as he explores all things magnetic, ranging from levitating trains to radio speakers and household refrigerator magnets. Topics include explanations for phenomena such as the aurora borealis, or "northern lights," sound and video recording using magnetic tape, magnetic devices in your computer, magnetic coils used to create electricity for light, and many other magnet-containing devices we depend on each and every day. Brian speculates on the many life forms that use tiny magnets in their brain for navigation and movement.
