In this edition of Everyday Science, host Brian Jones brings students into the studio to learn all about the concept of sound and music. Highlights include Little Shop of Physics home-grown experiments using slinkys, ropes, bubbles on speakers, and pop-can harmonicas. Students help Brian play a variety of fun musical instruments featuring guitars, violin, crystal glasses, and the infamous "hose-a-phone." Brian explains the concepts behind pendulums and musical instruments - namely how waves and wavelengths relate to frequency and pitch. Other examples include breaking the sound barrier, a car horn that illustrates the Doppler Effect, and home-made instruments that viewers can reproduce at home.
